Explore the beauties of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary! Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1969 so as to safeguard the wildlife of the area. The sanctuary is located around 60kms from Panaji, the capital city of Goa. It covers a wide tract of land i.e. around 86square.kilometers and is reckoned as the 2nd largest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. The sanctuary is very rich in natural vegetation cover and generally comprises of semi-evergreen forests and the moist deciduous forests. The place is fully covered with tall trees, which prevents any light to enter the place. River Talpona carves its way throught the sanctuary. The sanctuary also has a 25m tall watchtower that provides a good view of the animals, when they come to drink water.
Flora Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary provides shelter to various species of animals like leopards, sloth bears, tigers, porcupines, gazelles, panthers, monkeys, gaurs and many more. One can also see various types of birds that include both domestic as well as migratory birds.
How to reach! The place is easily accessible by road as it lies on the NH-14 i.e. the road leading to Karwar.
